High
School is a critical time to assess what you do and do not want in a college
major, career and college. Along with family and school support, there are
website resources to assist you along your journey. It addition to these
resources, I have college major books, a file cabinet full of brochures from
colleges, and the library has resources on resumes, choosing a college and SAT
Prep. Everything is available to you, but it is ultimately your responsibility
to search for answers. If you are interested in speaking to me about your
college/career process, it is imperative that you come to my office with a
pass. Parents, feel free to contact me to set up an appointment.

The Senior Scholarship Foundation awards scholarships to
seniors who have exemplary character. Money is raised through donations and
fundraisers. Incentives are given to families or businesses that donate money.
Feel free to print the Senior
Scholarship Foundation letter and
submit to local businesses. Student volunteer hours are given for all work.
Navy T-shirts(now $8) and sweatshirts(now $10) are on sale to raise money for

Scholarships
are available to students of any grade level. Review the links below to search
for scholarships. Often times, scholarships may request a similar essay,
therefore, save your essays because you may be able to use the same essay with
a different scholarship. The most common scholarship is Bright Futures. If
awarded, this pays for at least 75% of tuition, but you must attend school in

Although
seniors cannot apply for financial aid until after January 1st, it
is critical to know that it is available to you. Federal and state funds are
distributed to students based on financial need and merit(grades). Students can receive thousands of dollars in
aid, especially if attending a private institution. The FAFSA must be filled
out after January 1st to receive aid. The earlier you apply, the
more money that is received. Even if you do not think your family will qualify,
apply!!!

it is imperative that you visit any institutions that you are serious about

The
SAT and ACT are tests used for admissions into college. They can also be used by
seniors who have not passed the FCAT. Four-year institutions use the SAT
Reasoning Test/ACT for admissions, whereas community colleges use it for
placement in classes. All students should take both tests because they often do
better on one than the other. For students interested in attending rigorous
institutions, especially Ivy League colleges, SAT Subject Tests may be required
in addition to the SAT/ACT. Search individual school websites for admissions
requirements. Although paper applications are available in my office, I highly
recommend that students register online to expedite the process. Students
receive scores three weeks after the test. It is the students responsibility
when registering to send the scores to the colleges in which they are applying.
Colleges require test scores to be sent directly from the CollegeBoard
or ACT. Test scores on a transcript will not satisfy this requirement.
If
SAT/ACT prep classes are out of your price range, I recommend buying an SAT/ACT
preparation book at a local bookstore. Somerset Academy Charter offers SAT Prep
