My name is Nivia
Acosta and I am a native Floridian having lived here
most of life. I was born in Guatemala but lived there
for only 8 months after my birth.
I have been a
resident of West Pembroke Pines for the past 15 years
and I have two sons ages 14 and 9. This is my fifth year
teaching here at Somerset Academy Elementary. Before
becoming a full time teacher, I worked as a teacher's
assistant at Manatee Bay Elementary for one year. I was
also a substitute teacher for Broward County for one
year. I graduated from Florida Atlantic University with
a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. I am also
ESOL endorsed by the state of Florida.
I decided to
become a teacher because I thought it was the way that I
knew I could make a small difference in the lives of
children. I think we live in a society
that is bombarding us with so many negative things that
we need to show our children to stay focused with more
positive things and teach them to respect each other. I
have many exciting goals and great expectations for my
students. There is always a very open line of
communication in my classroom with all the parents of my
students and I think they are the number one influence
in the lives of their children. In the past, I have
worked very closely with parents so that we can achieve
the goals we have set forth.
