In 2007,
upon her return on the Endeavour, teacher astronaut
Barbara Morgan said that teaching is more challenging
that being an astronaut. I too feel that teaching is the
most challenging job. I considering it to be my
most fulfilling "lifework" (after motherhood).
My greatest satisfaction comes from teaching a child a
new (or difficult) concept and seeing that he or she
gets it.
I
consider it a real privilege and blessing to be a
teacher … especially since teaching is a second career
for me. Before teaching I worked in advertising,
marketing and product development. I have been teaching
for the past 6 years - all of them at Somerset Academy.
I
believe that reading is fun, and I am a big proponent of
giving students the opportunity to read a variety of
literature genres. This year all my students will read
mysteries, science fiction, biographies, fantasies,
poetry, historical and realistic fiction, and
non-fiction - in class and at home. My goal is for every
child to read at least 25 novels (chapter books) a year.
In
addition to teaching 5th grade, I also serve as 5th
grade team leader and elementary Student Government
Association sponsor. The SGA's goal is to obtain
additional playground equipment for 3-5th grade and
leave a long-lasting legacy to Somerset. I graduated
from FIU with a B.S. in Communications, and I completed
my Masters Degree in Education Leadership at Lynn
University.
I live
in Weston with my husband, Constantin, and my two
children, Robert - who is a college freshman, and Ashley
- who is a high school sophomore.
My
hobbies include reading (of course) and watching HGTV. I
am also a certified "news-junkie" and look forward to
hearing what's new on the campaign trail. I hope to help
your children become as fascinated about the elections
process as they are about their video games (we all have
dreams ...) My wish is for each of them to grow up and
vote in every single election so they can have a say in
their own government, and become competent future
leaders of America.
I look
forward to a fabulous year with my new and
fabulous fifth graders. |
