Pitbull Makes a Surprise Visit to Somerset Academy!

On Friday, April 12th, "Mr.Worldwide" (Pitbull) gave Somerset Academy Chapel Trail a surprise visit to encourage students in light of FCAT week. The sound of screams could be heard far and wide as Pitbull entered the gymnasium in which students were assembled. Following a performance by Somerset's Varsity Dance Team, excitement continued to build as Pitbull took the floor and stepped up to the mic. Although he did not perform a song, he did better by making an inspirational speech. He said that he wouldn't be where he was today without people who believed in him and he let students know that he believed in them, too. Despite not being able to stay very long, Pitbull left a great impression with the words that he did say about how we, as young people, can do anything with perseverance!

The winter guard had a very successful season, staying in the top 4 placements all season long as well as making it to the Elite A Finals at their first ever Winter Guard International Regional. They competed Nationally and were able to represent Somerset Academy in the biggest competitive winter guard organization in the world! Somerset Girls Pull Off Surprise Win in 400 Relay

Somerset Academy, a third-year track program, pulled off the shocker of the District 14-2A championships when its girls’ 400-meter relay team knocked off American Heritage, the state’s No. 5-ranked team, at Coral Springs on Thursday.

The Patriots (47.25) were considered a shoo-in for the district title, but the Panthers’ quartet of Christina De La Cruz, Sarah Walloston, Kiana Jones and Chanel Freeman had other ideas, clocking a school-record 51.33 seconds for the victory.

“When our girls heard the announcer say it was a big upset, they got real upset about it,” Panthers coach Tomal Parker said. “Heritage is a great team, but our girls have worked hard all year.”
